About The Walking Dead
The Walking Dead is a well-known horror franchise set in a post-apocalyptic world. It includes a comic book series and a live-action TV show, both with their own unique storylines.
The comic book series was first published in 2003 by Image Comics. It was created by writer Robert Kirkman and artist Tony Moore, with artist Charlie Adlard taking over from issue #7 onward.
The story follows Rick Grimes, a sheriff's deputy who wakes up from a coma to find the world overrun by zombies, which are referred to as "walkers". The narrative focuses on Rick's group and their survival, as well as their interactions with other groups in a world without societal laws.
The comic was highly acclaimed for its character-driven narrative and gritty portrayal of a post-apocalyptic world. It even received the prestigious Eisner Award. The comic series concluded in 2019 with issue #193, a surprise end to the story.
The TV show premiered in October 2010 on AMC and was developed by Frank Darabont. It has become one of the channel's most-watched series.
While based on Kirkman's comic book, the show has its own unique storyline, differing in parts from the comic. It shares the same premise of following survivors in a post-apocalyptic world overrun by zombies. The show stars Andrew Lincoln as Rick Grimes, with a supporting cast that changes over its various seasons.
The series has received widespread acclaim for its production value, character development, and narrative. It has spawned multiple spin-off series and had a significant cultural impact. Unlike the comic, the TV show has continued beyond the comic's storyline, exploring new narratives and characters.
Both The Walking Dead comic and TV show have significantly impacted the zombie genre, redefining and popularizing it for new generations. They have become cultural landmarks, influencing numerous other works in various media.
