After premiering back in June to mixed-negative reviews, Netflix has decided not to move forward with a second season of lesbian vampire drama series First Kill.
The show had an intriguing premise, focusing on the budding relationship between a vampire and a vampire hunter, but according to Deadline, "the series, which did not have the staying power of most Netflix hits, still did not meet thresholds for viewing and completion of episodes."
It's never nice to see shows get cancelled, especially when they've built up a solid fanbase, but after seeing the first few episodes of First Kill... yeah, it's never nice when shows get cancelled.
"When it's time for teenage vampire Juliette (Sarah Catherine Hook) to make her first kill so she can take her place among a powerful vampire family, she sets her sights on a new girl in town named Calliope (Imani Lewis). But much to Juliette's surprise, Calliope is a vampire hunter from a family of celebrated slayers. Both find that the other won't be so easy to kill and, unfortunately, way too easy to fall for," reads the synopsis.
The show is based on a short story by New York Times best-selling author Victoria "V. E." Schwab, who was also on board as a writer and executive producer, with Felicia D. Henderson (The Punisher, Gossip Girl) joining her as showrunner. Emma Roberts and Karah Preiss were enlisted as executive producers.
