We first reported on this a few months ago when a bunch of promo stills made waves in the horror community, and a poster for bizarre-looking indie horror flick Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey is now online (via Dread Central).
The artwork features an evil take on the portly bear and a grotesque version of Piglet, along with the tagline, "this ain't no bedtime story."
Winnie the Pooh entered the public domain earlier this year, which means Walt Disney Co. can no longer lay sole claim to the character . Filmmaker Rhys Frake-Waterfield has taken full advantage by putting a mallet in Pooh's hand and turning him into a remorseless killer.
Described as "a grisly retelling of the Winnie the Pooh legend," Blood and Honey follows Pooh and Piglet as they go on a murderous rampage after Christopher Robin leaves for college and abandons them. Tigger and Eeyore will not appear because of a rights issue, but the director recently implied that the pair may have eaten their donkey pal when driven into a feeding frenzy.
“Because they’ve had to fend for themselves so much, they’ve essentially become feral,” Waterfield explained to Variety. “So they’ve gone back to their animal roots. They’re no longer tame: they’re like a vicious bear and pig who want to go around and try and find prey.”
Check out the poster below, and keep an eye out for the first trailer.
