After a triumphant launch at Sundance earlier this year, Neon has unveiled the official trailer for Together, offering the first glimpse of an unsettling body horror experience starring Dave Franco and Alison Brie.
While much of the story remains under wraps, the synopsis indicates, “Long into their relationship, Tim and Millie reach a crisis point after relocating to the countryside, leaving behind everything they once knew—apart from each other. Already at odds, an ominous encounter with a strange, unnatural force begins to twist their lives, their relationship, and even their physical forms.”
Australian director Michael Shanks (The Wizards of Aus) makes his feature film debut, and the movie has drawn significant praise, earning a flawless 100% on RottenTomatoes so far.
In a statement, Shanks noted, “I’ve been with my partner for more than 15 years. We met at ‘schoolies’—the tragic Australian version of Spring Break—and I’ve never been an adult without her. We’ve lived together, shared friends, meals, even the same air…
This film is about the potential terrors of sharing a life with someone—the deep-seated fears of commitment laid bare. It explores co-dependency, monogamy, our joys and grievances, and ultimately questions whether we can ever really tell where one life ends and the other begins.”
Together stars Franco (21 Jump Street; Now You See Me; Neighbors) and Brie (Community; Scream 4; GLOW), with Damon Herriman (Justified; Mindhunter; Once Upon a Time in Hollywood) also appearing.
Franco’s busy schedule includes Now You See Me 3, Bubble & Squeak, and Regretting You, while Brie has Masters of the Universe and the long-awaited Community movie - where she'll reprise her breakout role as Annie Edison - on her horizon. The Peacock film is set to return all of the main cast, including Joel McHale, Gillian Jacobs, Danny Pudi, Yvette Nicole Brown, Alison Brie, Donald Glover, Ken Jeong, and Jim Rash.
Neon, which recently scooped up Best Picture for Anora, acquired Together after a fierce bidding war. Should the film gain momentum upon release, it may well factor into the next awards season conversation.
Together hits theaters on August 1!
