Earlier this year, acclaimed indie director Ti West released his '70s-set horror flick X to a highly positive reception, and the first trailer for his prequel, Pearl, is now online.
While X focused on a group of young amateur porn filmmakers falling prey to a murderous elderly couple when they arrive at a farm to shoot an adult movie, Pearl will tell the backstory of the crazy old bat who notched up the biggest body count.
Mia Goth is set to reprise the role of the younger Pearl for a tale that promises to relay the “x-traodinary” origin of the original movie's deranged killer.
Filmmaker Ti West returns with another chapter from the twisted world of X in this astonishing follow-up to the year’s most acclaimed horror film. Trapped on her family’s isolated farm, Pearl must tend to her ailing father under the bitter and overbearing watch of her devout mother. Lusting for a glamorous life like she’s seen in the movies. Pearl’s ambitions, temptations, and repressions all collide, in the stunning, technicolor-inspired origin story of X’s iconic villain.
Goth also co-wrote the project with West and served as an executive producer. Pearl also stars David Corenswet (The Politician), Tandi Wright (Xena: Warrior Princess), Matthew Sunderland (The Stranger), and Emma Jenkins-Purro (Bygones).
Pearl will be released theatrically on September 16, 2022 after its world premiere at the Venice Film Festival next month.
