INFINITY POOL: Brandon Cronenberg's "Batsh*t" NC-17 Cut Divides Sundance Audiences

Brandon Cronenberg's Infinity Pool had its world premiere at Sundance last night, and while the NC-17 cut of the movie was praised by many, not everyone was a fan of the debauchery on display.

Brandon Cronenberg's Infinity Pool screened during the Sundance Film Festival on Saturday night, and it sounds like the director's latest project might be his most bizarre and twisted yet - which really is saying something.

Although the movie will be released later this month with an R-rating, THR reports that the version that screened at Sundance was a full-on, NC-17 cut, featuring all manner of debauchery.

The story focuses on a fictional holiday resort where an author with writer's block (Alexander Skarsgard) and his wife go to find inspiration. They meet a fan (Mia Goth) and her husband, and the two couples engage in some seriously f*cked up sounding behaviour.

“There’s a lot of conformity and monotony when you read scripts,” said Skarsgard at the post-Q&A with the cast and filmmaker. “You’ve just seen the movie. It’s just crazy, crazy … Love it or hate it, but it’s rare to experience something like this as an actor.”

Though reviews have been mostly positive, it sounds like this one will be highly divisive. Reactions range from "erotic, sensual, and ingenious," to "one of the worst films I’ve seen in the past decade."

We're definitely intrigued! Check out the latest trailer below, and let us know if you plan on checking out Infinity Pool when it releases on January 27.

"While staying at an isolated island resort, James (Alexander Skarsgård) and Em (Cleopatra Coleman) are enjoying a perfect vacation of pristine beaches, exceptional staff, and soaking up the sun. But guided by the seductive and mysterious Gabi (Mia Goth), they venture outside the resort grounds and find themselves in a culture filled with violence, hedonism, and untold horror. A tragic accident leaves them facing a zero tolerance policy for crime: Either you’ll be executed, or, if you’re rich enough to afford it, you can watch yourself die instead."
