It was announced earlier this year that a new adaptation of Haunted Mansion is in the works, and Disney has now unveiled an updated logo and plot synopsis for the movie.
Justin Simien (Dear White People, Bad Hair) will direct this new take on the long-running Disney theme park attraction, which is set to star LaKeith Stanfield, Tiffany Haddish, Owen Wilson, Rosario Dawson, and Danny DeVito.
"In this mysterious adventure, a doctor (Dawson) and her 9-year-old son (Chase Dillon), looking to start a new life, move into a strangely affordable mansion in New Orleans, only to discover that the place is much more than they bargained for. Desperate for help, they contact a priest (Wilson), who, in turn, enlists the aid of a widowed scientist-turned failed-paranormal expert (Stanfield), a French Quarter psychic (Haddish) and a crotchety historian (DeVito)."
The Haunted Mansion was previously adapted for the big screen back in 2003, but the movie, directed by Rob Minkoff and starring Eddie Murphy, was a critical and commedial failure. Guillermo del Toro was attached to helm an earlier version of this reboot, but it never came to pass.
This latest incarnation was penned by Katie Dippold (Ghostbusters 2016), and is set to hit theaters on March 10, 2023.
