2021's Fear Street trilogy proved to be a major success for Netflix, and there have been persistent rumors that the streamer is planning to develop more adaptations of R.L. Stine's work. Now, it's finally been made official.
While speaking to Collider, Head of Netflix Film Scott Stuber confirmed that a new standalone Fear Street movie is in the works.
“Obviously, there’s a lot of books. There’s one stand-alone that we’re working on right now that we’re once again trying to get the script right, but I like it very much, and so does the team. So I feel like if we can get that script right, there would be a great kind of extension of that franchise.”
As Stuber notes, there are a lot of stories to draw from, so it's difficult to even hazard a guess as to what this project would focus on. Stuber declined to offer any clues, but he did imply that Netflix would be looking into more horror-based content in the future.
“I think there are two complexities to it; one, it’s an event right now in theaters, right? It’s a communal event that really is working theatrically, and so for us to be able to get the right stories, I think it’s imperative, and to be a little more aggressive in that space.”
