EVIL DEAD RISE Officially Rated R For "Strong Bloody Horror Violence And Gore"

This probably won't come as a huge surprise, but the next instalment in the iconic Evil Dead franchise has now been given an official R-rating for “strong bloody horror violence and gore."

Evil Dead Rise has received an official rating from the MPA, and just in case you were worried that the movie might be toned down a little in order to reach a wider audience, it's a hard R!

The latest instalment in the iconic horror franchise has been rated R for “Strong bloody horror violence and gore, and some language.” Director Lee Cronin tool to Twitter to joke about the big reveal; "I thought about making #EvilDeadRise a warm family friendly PG, but, instead decided to rip that notion to bloody bits and pieces."

Evil Dead Rise is set to debut on HBO Max later this year, but no official release date has been announced. The horror flick will ditch the usual forest setting and move the Deadite action to the city, as "two estranged sisters’ reunion is cut short when flesh-possessing demons thrust them into a battle for survival."

Alyssa Sutherland (The Mist, Vikings) and Lily Sullivan (Picnic at Hanging Rock, Jungle) will play the lead roles.

Sam Raimi's microbudget original is still considered one of the best horror movies of all time, with direct sequels Evil Dead 2 and Army of Darkness as well as recent TV show Ash vs. The Evil Dead upping the comedic elements. The well-received 2013 remake was a far more serious affair, but it's not known which direction Rise will head in.
