He Who Walks Behind the Rows is spinning in his cornfield.
Director Kurt Wimmer's re-adaptation of Stephen King's creepy short story, Children of the Corn, hits theatres today for an 18-day window before being made available on demand and digital on March 21, and the first reviews have hit Rotten Tomatoes.
The movie is currently sitting at a truly abysmal 7%.
While the trailer didn't exactly blow anyone away, it looked decent enough to give horror fans hope that this latest take on the chilling tale might break the streak of awful films that goes right back to the '80s original.
We won't go into all the criticisms that have been directed at the movie, but out of 27 reviews counted, only 2 are positive. They commend Children of the Corn for being better than most of the adaptations that came before, which... yeah, not exactly a major accomplishment.
In the movie, "a psychopathic twelve-year-old girl in a small town in Nebraska recruits all the other children and goes on a bloody rampage, killing the corrupt adults and anyone else who opposes her. A bright high schooler who won’t go along with the plan is the town’s only hope of survival.”
The cast includes Elena Kampouris (Before I Fall), Kate Moyer (When Hope Calls), Callan Mulvey (Avengers: Endgame) and Bruce Spence (The Road Warrior).
