A remake of 1990 horror comedy Arachnophobia is in the works, with Atomic Monster duo James Wan and Michael Clear producing along with Amblin Partners. Happy Death Day and Freaky director Christopher Landon has signed on to helm the project.
We don't know very much about this new take, but the original was directed by Frank Marshall and starred Jeff Daniels as a doctor who moves his family to a small town to take over a new practice, only to discover that the location has been overrun with a nest of lethal South America spiders. Julian Sands and Harley Jane Kozak played supporting roles, with John Goodman stealing the show as a cocky exterminator.
The movie struck just the right balance of laughs and jolts, and made for very uncomfortable viewing for anyone who happened to be afflicted with the titular fear of spiders. It remains to be seen if this reboot can replicate its success, but the material is right up Landon's alley, so it's in safe hands.
