Apple TV has finally debuted a trailer for one of the more anticipated streaming shows heading our way this summer, The Essex Serpent.
Based on Sarah Perry's novel of the same name, the limited series follows London widow Cora Seaborne (Homeland star Claire Danes) who, after her brilliant, domineering husband dies, moves to Essex to investigate reports of a mythical sea creature. She forms an unlikely bond with the village vicar (Loki actor Tom Hiddleston), but when tragedy strikes, locals accuse her of attracting the beast.
We highly doubt there really is a serpent, of course, with the more horror-tinged aspects of this show likely to arise from local superstition and mistrust of outsiders... especially attractive women who tempt the town's god-fearing priest! Of course, you never know - there may be some twists in store.
Check out the trailer below along with a poster, and let us know what you think.
Also starring Frank Dillane, Clémence Poésy, Hayley Squires, Dixie Egerickx, Jamael Westman, and Michael Jibson, The Essex Serpent is set to premiere on Apple TV+ on May 13.
