Netflix has unveiled the full trailer for its black-and-white limited series adaptation of Patricia Highsmith’s The Talented Mr. Ripley, which stars Andrew Scott (Sherlock, All of Us Strangers) as the eponymous sociopath.
Set in the '60s, the psychological thriller follows Scott's take on Ripley as he finagles his way into the lives of some wealthy socialites when he's hired by a stranger to travel to Italy to try to convince his wayward son to return home.
Upon finding the son, Dickie, Tom decides to use his considerable charm and ability to imitate others to pass himself off as an old friend. The deception holds for a while, but when Dickie's fiancé Marge begins to become suspicious, Ripley goes to extreme lengths to draw the charade out for as long as possible.
If you've seen the previous adaptation of The Talented Mr. Ripley starring Matt Damon in the title role, you'll have a pretty good idea of what to expect - although there's a chance this series will also include elements from some of Highsmith's other Ripley novels.
Ripley also stars Dakota Fanning as Marge Sherwood and Johnny Flynn as Dickie Greenleaf, along with Eliot Sumner, Maurizio Lombardi, Margherita Buy and John Malkovich, who actually played an older version of Tom Ripley in 2002's Ripley's Game.
