SCOOBY-DOO Star Sarah Michelle Gellar Reveals That A "Steamy Kiss" Between Dafne And Velma Was Cut

We had heard that James Gunn's original script for 2002's Scooby-Doo wasn't quite as family-friendly as the movie turned out to be, and star Sarah Michelle Gellar has now revealed that a "steamy kiss" was cut.

Despite a few adult-oriented jokes finding their way into the movie, 2002's live-action Scooby-Doo was a mostly family-friendly affair - but that wasn't always the plan.

Writer James Gunn has previously confirmed that his initial take on the classic cartoon was quite a bit darker, and he had envisioned a PG-13 parody of the show, more akin to the '90s Brady Bunch Movie.

The filmmaker also revealed that there was an R-rated cut of Scooby-Doo, and that CGI was used to remove the female cast members' cleavage for the theatrical version.

Now, star Sarah Michelle Gellar has confirmed the rumor that her character, Dafne, and Velma (Linda Cardellini) were originally going to be a lot closer!

"I don’t know about a relationship on the side," the Buffy actress said on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen when asked about the Velma/Dafne relationship rumors. "But there was a steamy [kiss]. Yeah. There was an actual kiss between Daphne and Velma that got cut. I feel like the world wants to see it, but I don’t know where it is."

Something tells us Gellar's inkling that fans would like to see that scene is very much correct, but if the footage does exist, it's unlikely to see the light of day unless a brand-new cut of the movie is released at some point.
