All eight episodes of Crystal Lake will be released on Peacock on October 15, and the streamer has now shared a sneak peek at the series premiere's gruesome opening scene.
The clip finds Pamela Voorhees (Linda Cardellini) covered in blood as she stares into the bathroom mirror, before shakily pulling a tooth from her knuckle. Jason's mother has seemingly claimed her first victim.
We had been led to believe that Pamela would be handling the killing duties alone, but the recent trailer featured a quick glimpse of what looked a lot like "Sackhead" Jason (the character didn't actually don the iconic hockey mask until Friday the 13th Part 3) running through the forest.
Will we see an adult Jason pick up a machete/pickaxe in this first season? It certainly appears so.
The line in the teaser about "what the good people of Crystal Lake would say if they knew who you and Jason really were" and the shot of what appears to be a yellow laboratory door have led to speculation that Jason may turn out to be some kind of failed Government super-weapon. Jason is traditionally depicted as a supernatural "zombie," but the expanded universe leans into genetic experimentation as an explanation for his apparent inability to be killed.
Showrunner Brad Caleb Kane recently put the "super-soldier" theory to rest with an Instagram post.
“It’s not the CIA. He’s not a gov’t super soldier or an Eleven. He’s probably just a Chud. Or at worst a Trog. In any case, all will be known Oct. 15. Y’know, they called Copernicus a heretic at first, too. And look how that turned out! 🤔 Well, bad for him, I guess. Nevermind. Enjoy!!! #NotRoy #NotDemonicParasite #NotSpaceX”
Chucky and Long Bright River star Callum Vinson will play Jason as a child, and the cast also includes Nick Cordileone (Warrior), Joy Suprano (Fleishman is in Trouble), Danielle Kotch (Director’s Cut), and Phoenix Parnevik (Bel-Air) as future Voorhees victims Ralph, Rita, Claudette, and Barry.
