Though we only heard about this very recently (possibly not a great sign), Iconic Events Releasing has shared the first teaser trailer for what's described as "a fresh and sharp reimagining" of macabre '90s comedy, Don't Tell Mom the Babysitter's Dead.

The original movie wasn't exactly what you'd' call a smash hit, and critics weren't overly impressed, either (it sits at a pretty dreadful 35% on Rotten Tomatoes), but it has achieved cult classic status over the years.

Christina Applegate starred as a teenager eagerly awaiting her mother's summer-long absence, who decides to party it up while the babysitter looks after her younger siblings. But when the babysitter abruptly dies, things get a whole lot more complicated.

This remake features Simone Joy Jones in the iconic Christina Applegate role, alongside Nicole Richie, June Squibb, Donielle Tremaine Hensley, Jermaine Fowler and Ms. Pat, with newcomers Miles Fowler, Iantha Richardson, and Gus Kenworthy.

Have a look at the trailer and poster below, and let us know what you think in the comments section.

Seventeen-year-old Tanya Crandell (Simone Joy Jones) can’t wait to spend the summer living it up with her friends in Spain before heading to Howard University in the fall. But when her mom (Ms. Pat) decides to head to a much-needed wellness retreat in Thailand, Tanya is forced to stay home with her three siblings instead. Following the unexpected death of their elderly babysitter (June Squibb), Tanya gets a job working for the confident and ambitious Rose (Nicole Richie). Juggling work, family, and a complicated romance, Tanya faces the responsibility of adulthood at the cost of her summer of freedom.

Producers include Juliet Berman, Oren Segal, Justin Nappi, and Juliana Maio. Michael Phillips and Tova Laiter serve as senior executive producers, and Ryan Huffman as executive producer with Eric Tosstorff and Kim Coleman co-producing.

Tyra Banks serves as executive producer through her company SMiZE Productions.
