In what will surely be seen as a dream casting choice for many, Lauren Ambrose (The Servant, Six Feet Under) has signed on to appear in the second season of Yellowjackets as a grown-up version of Van (Liv Hewson).
Of course, this confirms Van as yet another survivor of the mysterious island, which we are glad to learn after her rather horrific ordeal in season 1.
Ambrose joins Melanie Lynskey, Christina Ricci, Juliette Lewis, and Tawney Cypress as the adult versions of the team members who made it home, although we're not sure exactly how she'll factor into the story. We last saw Van kneeling behind the increasingly creepy Lottie in the season 1 finale, so there's a decent chance she's remained aligned with the "Antler Queen" in the present day, and is helping her round-up the other surviving Yellowjackets.
If you haven't been following the Showtime series, we highly recommend adding it to your 2022 must-watch list. The show has been referred to as a mash-up of Lost and Lord of the Flies, and while those comparisons are valid, it's very much its own, compelling, grim, hilarious, messed-up thing.
Playing out in two timelines, the story focuses on a school soccer team (the Yellowjackets of the title) who are forced to eke out an existence on a remote island when their plane crashes in 1996. We also follow the four main survivors in the present as they struggle with the lengths they had to go to in order to stay alive over two decades earlier.
Oh, and there's some kind of dark supernatural force at play on the island... or is there?
Yellowjackets is set to return for its second season next year.
