THE WALKING DEAD Star Chandler Riggs On Why He Isn't Bitter About Carl's Shocking Death (Exclusive)

Many fans of The Walking Dead were left seething after Carl Grimes was suddenly killed off in the AMC series, and star Chandler Riggs has now reflected on that and why he holds no grudges against the show.

The Walking Dead was initially quite faithful to Robert Kirkman's long-running comic book series but, as time passed, it started doing its own thing more and more often. That was often to the show's detriment, with many of the creative decisions made by AMC driving viewers away and upsetting fans.

Still, the TV show had a good run, but made one of its most controversial decisions when Chandler Riggs' Carl Grimes was killed off. The character's comic book counterpart reached adulthood even after his father, Rick, died but a bite from a walker saw Carl eventually take his own life. If nothing else, it proved that The Walking Dead could still surprise us, but plenty of fans were still mighty upset.

Recently, we spoke with Riggs about his role as Superman in Justice League x RWBY: Super Heroes and Huntsmen, Part One

While we had the opportunity, we made sure to ask the actor how he feels now about the way Carl's story ended.

"It’s crazy to think it was almost six years ago now that I left the show," Riggs started. "It was an incredible experience and I’m so lucky to have been on it for so long. I’m so grateful for everything it gave me over the years. I wouldn’t have been playing Superman if it wasn’t for that. It was pretty bittersweet."

"I knew there was a lot more left in Carl’s story that I was not able to tell, but at the same time, it was nice because I could do other projects and films and shows I couldn’t have done on The Walking Dead," he continued. "I’ve been able to play other characters and really feel like I’m stepping into being an adult actor. It was really cool and I’m not bitter about it at all."

The backlash at the time was incredibly vocal, so it's good to know Riggs isn't holding any grudges about this divisive end to his time as part of the franchise. Something many of you may not realise is that the actor actually made a cameo appearance in the finale as part of a crowd scene after visiting the set to catch up with his old friends!

Justice League x RWBY: Super Heroes & Huntsmen, Part One will be available to purchase Digitally and on 4K Ultra HD and Blu-Ray starting April 25.
