THE WALKING DEAD Spinoff Featuring Norman Reedus' Daryl Will See Him Battle 28 DAYS LATER-Style Zombies

With The Walking Dead shambling to its conclusion, AMC is shifting the spotlight to a number of spinoffs set in this post-apocalyptic world ruled by the undead. The series stopped adhering to Robert Kirkman's comic books some time ago, and among those on the way are ones revolving around Rick Grimes and Michonne, Negan and Maggie, and Daryl and Carol.

While Melissa McBride will no longer be part of the latter, The Walking Dead Universe's head honcho, Scott M. Gimple, has now shared some details on what we can expect from the series.

"Daryl is a fish out of water to start with. If Daryl finds himself with new people, he's a fish out of water," the producer started. "In France, in a country that's going through the apocalypse, [it's] an entirely different thing."

"He finds himself having to reinvent himself again, having to find himself again, and also, not being with – probably – the only people in the world he's comfortable with."

So, he's heading to France, but that's not the only change on the horizon. In The Walking Dead: World Beyond, we learned that there are super fast "variants" of walkers that are potentially man-made. This show looks set to pick up on that post-credits scene surprise, with Gimple saying the scene "is a bit of a tease of some of the things Daryl is going to face."

In other words, we'll see Daryl battling 28 Days Later-style man-made zombies. Has The Walking Dead Universe jumped the shark? A little perhaps, but we'd be lying if we said this doesn't sound like fun. As for how he gets to France, we're guessing it has something to do with the capabilities of the Civil Republic Military.

This show doesn't exactly sound like the "zombie apocalypse road trip" it was first billed as, but plans no doubt changed when McBride dropped out due to scheduling issues.

Are you looking forward to this upcoming The Walking Dead spinoff?
