The CW has enlisted Meg Donnelly and Drake Rodger to play Mary and John Winchester, the future parents of Sam and Dean, in the upcoming Supernatural prequel series known as The Winchesters.
The show was announced shortly before the final episode aired, and will reportedly focus on the "epic, untold love story of how John and Mary met and put it all on the line to not only save their love, but the entire world."
Donnelly is best known for starring in Disney Channel’s Zombies franchise, and has also appeared in American Housewife and High-School Musical. Her take on Mary is described as "a 19-year-old who’s been fighting the forces of darkness for most of her life. After losing someone close to her, she considers quitting the family business — until her father’s disappearance and the arrival of newcomer John Winchester forces her to lead a new team."
Rodger, meanwhile, can be seen in The In Between, Murder RX and the upcoming Quiet in My Town. John Winchester is said to be a "selfless and clear-headed" Vietnam vet who "finds a new mission back home, where traces of his father’s past lead him to a secret organization and a whole new war as a hunter."
Supernatural's Robbie Thompson is writing The Winchesters, and will also executive produce alongside Jensen Ackles, who will return to narrate the series as Dean. No release date has been announced.
