During Geeked Week, Netflix released the first sneak peek for Stranger Things Season 4, Volume 2. While it's less than 30 seconds in length, there's no shortage of juicy teaser of what's to come in the final two episodes of the season.
We get a glimpse of Robin, Nancy, and Steve together in the Upside Down, which possibly spoils Nancy's fate at the end of the first Volume. Dustin appears to be exploring with Eddie (is that his new bff?), and Hopper and Barry look to be investigating some sort of Russian experimental facility where we see a giant shadowy figure. Then, it cuts to a montage of explosive scenes that tease the epic conclusion to Season 4.
With Vecna's origins now revealed, there's still a lot to unpack, especially as it pertains to the Upside Down and what is really motivating all these evil creatures to attack Hawkins. But remember, Season 4 isn't the final season of Stranger Things.
There's still a fifth season planned, and it sounds like that will answer a lot of our questions about the Upside Down. During a Stranger Things 4 Unlocked, a new aftershow hosted by Felicia Day, the Duffer Brothers briefly talked about the big revelations in Season 4 and their plans for Season 5. Ross Duffer explained:
"[During the writing of Season 1] We sat down with our writers, and we spent a couple of weeks just going 'OK, what is the Upside Down, and how did it come to be, and what monsters are in there,' and all this. It's about a 20-page document, and that really has most of what we're talking about now. It wasn't that detailed, but the big beats [are there], and there's still stuff, and we hint about it in this season. We start getting into a little bit about the Upside Down, but we don't answer it yet, but we have those answers. So the last sort of remaining questions that are answered in that document, we've punted a couple of those to have some big reveals in Season 5, and that's really going to affect what Season 5 is about."
So while Season 4, Volume 2 will seemingly have a lot to do with Vecna, it sounds like we'll have to wait until next season to really learn about the secrets of the Upside Down. In the meantime, Stranger Things Season 4 returns for its final two episodes on July 1.
