Goosebumps will return to Disney+ for a second season but with a bit of a twist. It will now feature an entirely new cast in a brand-new story and setting based on another story within R.L. Stine's Scholastic book series.

A brief synopsis provides an overview for the upcoming second season which will consist of eight episodes.

In the upcoming season, teenage siblings discover a threat within their home, setting off a chain of events that unravel a profound mystery. As they delve into the unknown, the duo find themselves entangled in the story of five teenagers who mysteriously vanished in 1994.

The supernatural horror television series was rebooted by Sony Pictures Television for Disney+ and Hulu, and premiered last October as part of the "Hallowstream" and "Huluween" streaming blocks, respectively. The series focused on a serialized style of storytelling as opposed to the anthology format of the original television series that aired in 1995.

Season 1 followed a group of five high schoolers as they embarked on "a shadowy and twisted journey to investigate the tragic passing three decades earlier of a teen named Harold Biddle — while also unearthing dark secrets from their parents’ past."

The season, which starred Justin Long, was met with generally positive reviews from critics and fans alike. With a 74% among critics and 69% audience score, Seaso n1 was officially Certified Fresh. It was nominated for a PGA Award in the Outstanding Children’s Program category and a DGA Award in the Outstanding Directorial Achievement in Children’s Programs category.

In addition to the awards, the series as a whole was a success for Disney+ and Hulu. The premiere episode drove 4.2 million total views globally in its first three days.

“Audiences everywhere fell in love with the series’ chills, thrills, heart and humor, making it one of Disney Branded Television’s most-watched shows of last year,” said Ayo Davis, president, Disney Branded Television. “We can’t wait to dive deeper into the brilliant mind of R.L. Stine, and to collaborate once again with Sony Pictures Television, Scholastic Entertainment, and our fantastic creative team to bring an entirely new mystery to Disney+ for season two.”

“We are incredibly proud of the work of our writers, producers, cast and crew and the vision they brought to season one, which a new generation of fans are loving alongside those who grew up in R.L. Stine’s iconic world,” added Katherine Pope, president of Sony Pictures Television Studios. “Like when you cracked open a new book in the ‘Goosebumps’ series, we can’t wait to see how the writers flip the show on its head as we explore the series as an anthology. Thanks to Disney Branded Television, who remain steadfast partners throughout this wonderfully chilling journey.”

We don't yet have a premiere date for Season 2, but you can catch the first season on Disney+.
