Showtime's Dexter revival, New Blood, proved to be a massive success, and we had heard that a second season was in the works. However, TV Line is now reporting that the story will not continue.
According to the site, Showtime will not be moving forward with a second season - but the network is far from done with the Dexter franchise.
Spoilers follow!
Dexter: New Blood concluded with the titular serial killer's son, Harrison (Jack Alcott), shooting his dead old dad (Michael C. Hall) dead when he discovered that he'd killed the innocent Sgt. Logan. It seemed like a definitive end to the macabre tale, but a second season would have picked up with Harrison following in his late father's bloody footsteps.
Disappointing news for fans, but Showtime — which will soon merge with Paramount+ — is said to be exploring several spin-off ideas, including a prequel series focusing on a younger version of Dex.
We're not sure how well a prequel show would go over, considering the original Dexter series included numerous flashbacks to the anti-hero's youth.
What do you guys make of this update? Would you have liked to see a second season of Dexter: New Blood, or do you think the final episode delivered a satisfying conclusion?
