AMC's upcoming adaptation of the late Anne Rice's Lives of the Mayfair Witches trilogy has made its first major casting announcement, with Alexandra Daddario (White Lotus, True Detective) set to play the lead role.
According to Variety, Daddario will play Rowan Mayfair, a neurosurgeon who has made peace with her occult heritage, but soon learns that there's so much more to her family history when she discovers that the Mayfairs have been plagued by a demon named Lasher for centuries.
Dan McDermott, president of entertainment and AMC Studios for AMC Networks said, “Alexandra is a singular talent who has lit up the screen in everything she’s been in and we couldn’t be happier to have her on board leading the cast of a series that will be a centerpiece of an expanding Anne Rice universe on AMC+ and AMC.” He continued, “[w]e found our Rowan and can’t wait for her to meet viewers later this year in a series being brilliantly conceived and led by Esta, Michelle, and Mark.”
AMC is also working on an adaptation of Rice's Interview With The Vampire, so perhaps we'll see a crossover someday (the books are set in the same literary universe).
The network has given Mayfair Witches an eight-episode first season. No premiere date has been announced.
