In what's sure to be seen as a major casting coup for Marvel Studios, the trades have now confirmed (The Illuminerdi broke the story) that Aubrey Plaza has signed on for a role in Agatha: Coven of Chaos.
Though details on her character are being kept under wraps (nothing new there), she is believed to be playing a villain. Does this mean Agatha (Kathryn Hahn) will find redemption? We'd say it's a safe bet since she's the main protagonist of the show, but we're still not sure what to expect from this spin-off.
We have heard that Coven of Chaos will lean a little heavier into the horror genre than WandaVision did, so don't be surprised if the supernatural/mystical corner of The MCU is explored to at least some degree.
Plaza played the incomparable Lenny Busker in FX's Legion, and more recently garnered acclaim for her performance in season 2 of The White Lotus. Her big-screen projects include Emily the Criminal, Child's Play (2019), Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World, and Ingrid Goes West.
We learned that Heartstopper alum Joe Locke had also joined the cast earlier this week. Though nothing is official, he is believed to be playing Wiccan.
Coven of Chaos will focus on the villainous Agatha Harkness (Kathryn Hahn), who almost managed to defeat the Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen) in the season finale of WandaVision before being bested and trapped in Westview in her "nosy neighbor Agnes" persona. Further plot details remain a mystery, but it was recently confirmed that Emma Caulfield Ford is also set to reprise the role of Dottie.
Jac Schaeffer, who is under a joint overall deal with Marvel and 20th Television, will serve as writer and executive producer. No premiere date has been announced.
