A smile can light up a room, but can also be pretty damn creepy under the right wrong circumstances - something many a horror movie has utilized to unsettling effect over the years.
Paramount Pictures has now debuted the first trailer for a new supernatural thriller called Smile from writer-director Parker Finn. Based on his own 2020 short Laura Hasn’t Slept, which received critical acclaim and won the SXSW Film Festival’s special jury recognition Midnight Award, the movie follows a psychiatrist whose patient kills herself in front of her after claiming to be plagued by a supernatural entity.
When the doctor begins to have strange, unexplained encounters of her own, she begins to suspect that the same malevolent force is after her.
This seems to be heavily influenced by the likes of Ring and It Follows, but to be honest, it really doesn't look all that great. Expect plenty of jump scares, though!
