It looks like Scream 6 might the first instalment of the iconic horror franchise not to feature lead character Sidney Prescott.

Though no direct quotes from the actress have been shared online, several sites are reporting that Neve Campbell has been telling those in attendance at Monsterpalooza that she won't be reprising the role of Sidney Prescott for the currently in-development sequel.

Sidney had a small, but still important part to play in Scream (2022), returning to her cursed hometown after Dewey's (David Arquette) death in order to help a new group of survivors defeat the latest incarnation(s) of the masked series killer known as Ghostface. Scream 6's official synopsis reads: “The Scream saga continues with the four survivors of the Ghostface killings as they leave Woodsboro behind and start a fresh chapter,” so it probably wouldn't make much sense for Sidney or Gale Weathers (Courteney Cox) to be involved, anyway.

Still, if accurate, this news is certain to disappoint fans of the slasher movie series.

Melissa Barrera (Sam), Jasmin Savoy Brown (Mindy), Mason Gooding (Chad), and Jenna Ortega (Tara) will return, with Scream 4's Hayden Panettiere set to reprise the role of Kirby. Dermot Mulroney recently became the latest cast member to sign on. Directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett will also be back behind the camera.

Scream 6 is set to slice its way into theaters on March 31, 2023.

It's now been confirmed that Campbell won't be back, and the actress has released the following statement.

“As a woman I have had to work extremely hard in my career to establish my value, especially when it comes to Scream. I felt the offer that was presented to me did not equate to the value I have brought to the franchise.” “It’s been a very difficult decision to move on. To all my Scream fans, I love you. You’ve always been so incredibly supportive to me. I’m forever grateful to you and to what this franchise has given me over the past 25 years.”

i have mixed feelings about this comment but also the franchise, nobody can deny that the first was a product of its time, it was globally loved and is talked about to this day, but i feel every movie after the first was just milking it .

As for neve i had never heard of her before this and only seen bits and pieces of her after this in a few things so i guess this was her holy grail, but its not like she became a breakout star and ruled the world so she has to be thankful but i guess to her with her age she cant just be tied to this franchise forever ,and she has been the face of it so if they didnt offer her worth then fair play but i hope she has not cut her nose off to spite her face as they say.

The last entry i didnt enjoy too much i called pretty much everything instantly and thought again overall it was pretty weak.

Not really a SCREAM fan. With a nostalgia character...you have to be willing to move on.
