Lionsgate and Twisted Pictures have revealed that they will soon commence into production on the next installment of the Saw franchise, with the new film slated for release on October 27, 2023.
Bloody Disgusting broke the news prior to the official announcement.
Kevin Greutert, who directed Saw VI and Saw: The Final Chapter, and edited Saw I through V and Jigsaw, is on board to helm the new movie.
Plot and character details are being kept under wraps, but "fans can be assured that the new film will capture their hearts – and other body parts – with all-new twisted, ingenious traps and a new mystery to solve."
Commenting on the announcement, franchise producers Mark Burg and Oren Koules said, “We have been listening to what the fans have been asking for and are hard at work planning a movie that Saw aficionados and horror fans alike will love. And part of that is giving the reins to Kevin Greutert, director of Saw VI, which is still one of the fans’ favorites in the entire series. More details will be revealed soon.”
Last year's franchise revival, Spiral: From the Book of Saw, received mixed reviews, but the movie was a decent-sized hit for the studio, so another installment was expected. Whether the new film will have any connective tissue to Spiral remains to be seen.
