Are you ready for more Saw?
After Spiral, a fairly underwhelming reboot starring Chris Rock, failed to resonate with horror fans, we thought that might be it for the long-running franchise. Well, One Take News has revealed that Tobin Bell is set to reprise his most famous role as John Kramer in the upcoming Saw 10 (which we're assuming will be titled Saw X).
The next instalment from Lionsgate and Twisted Pictures will begin production later this month, while an October 27, 2023 release date has also been confirmed.
Kevin Greutert, who directed Saw VI and Saw: The Final Chapter (as well as serving as an editor on the first five movies and Jigsaw) is set to helm the movie, so it has some veteran talent behind the camera.
According to the site, the plan for Saw 10 is to "[capture] everything Saw fans love about the franchise, while also keeping them guessing with all-new traps and a new mystery to solve."
Saw franchise producers Mark Burg and Oren Koules add, "What a thrill to be reuniting with Tobin. His performance as John Kramer is part of the magic that made this franchise a phenomenon and his character is an active part of this film."
We're not exactly sure how Kramer will return, though he has managed to live on beyond death in previous movies. Spiral didn't connect with fans despite featuring some gloriously inventive kills, so bringing back this original big bad feels like the right next step for a series that's arguably been running on fumes for a while now.
Despite that, the Saw franchise has found plenty of box office success, grossing upwards of $1 billion worldwide since that first movie was released, making it one of the highest-grossing horror franchises of all time.
As noted, the next Saw movie will be released in theaters on October 27, 2023.
