Anonymous X/Twitter scooper @MyTimeToShineH reported back in late-May that a sequel to Sinners was happening.
However, a new interview with director Ryan Coogler has thrown cold water on those assertions.
Speaking to Ebony Magazine, the Black Panther: Wakanda Forever helmer stated, "I’ve been in a space of making franchise films for a bit, so I wanted to get away from that," a reference to his work on Black Panther and Creed.
He continued, "I wanted the movie to feel like a full meal: your appetizers, starters, entrees and desserts, I wanted all of it there,” he explained. “I wanted it to be a holistic and finished thing. That was how I was asked all about it. That was always my intention.”
Rather than acknowledge their incorrect report MTTS simply deleted the tweet and is pretending as if they never started the rumor.
It's a tactic they've done before when rumors have proven false (see their incorrect report for the Fantastic Four cast, Ms. Marvel was going to be a Genie/Djinn in the MCU, the villains in The Marvels are the ClanDestine, and a host of other rumors that ultimately proved false) .
It goes to show that one should never fully trust any film news scooper other than established trades such as Deadline, Variety and The Hollywood Reporter.
In other news, Warner Bros. and HBO have announced when Sinners will arrive on Max.
If you were one of the few who missed Sinners in theaters, you'll be able to watch the film on the Fourth of July holiday.
About Sinners:
The night belongs to sinners. Only in theaters April 18.
Trying to leave their troubled lives behind, twin brothers (Jordan) return to their hometown to start again, only to discover that an even greater evil is waiting to welcome them back.
“You keep dancing with the devil, one day he’s gonna follow you home.”
Written and directed by Academy Award-nominated filmmaker Coogler, “Sinners” stars Jordan in a dual role, joined by Oscar nominee Hailee Steinfeld, Jack O’Connell, Wunmi Mosaku , Jayme Lawson, Omar Miller, Miles Caton, and Delroy Lindo.
The film is produced by Zinzi Coogler, Sev Ohanian and Ryan Coogler. The executive producers are Ludwig Göransson, Will Greenfield and Rebecca Cho.
Coogler’s behind-the-camera artisans include his “Black Panther” franchise collaborators: director of photography Autumn Durald Arkapaw, Oscar-winning production designer Hannah Beachler, editor Michael P. Shawver, Oscar-winning composer Ludwig Göransson, and Oscar-winning costume designer Ruth E. Carter.
