News broke late last year that Nicolas Cage had been cast as Dracula in Universal's upcoming Renfield movie, and thanks to People, we have our first glimpse of the legendary actor in full costume as the iconic lord of the vampires!

The Tomorrow War director Chris McKay is at the helm of the horror comedy, which is now filming in New Orleans. Check out the snaps at the link below, where you'll also find a first look at Nicholas Hoult (X-Men, Mad Max: Fury Road) as Drac's titular acolyte.

"What makes it super fun is that it's a comedy. And when you get that tone right — comedy and horror — like American Werewolf in London, it's a blast," said Cage of the project "It's got to be a bullseye. But that's what I'm looking for, something new to bring to the character and also that perfect tone of comedy and horror."

Ryan Ridley penned the script, which is based on an original story outline from Robert Kirkman. McKay will also produce alongside Samantha Nisenboim and Skybound Entertainment’s film team of Kirkman, David Alpert, Bryan Furst and Sean Furst.

In Bram Stoker's novel, R.M. Renfield was introduced as one of Dr. Seward's inmates before his backstory revealed that he was actually Dracula's attorney and Jonathan Harker's predecessor. Driven mad by the evil Count, Renfield became his willing acolyte, believing he would one day be given the gift of eternal life.

The character has appeared in most adaptations of the classic tale, and has been played by the likes of Dwight Frye in 1931's Dracula and Tom Waits in Francis Ford Coppola's 1992 version.

Im actually kinda stoked to see this. I'm digging the horror comedy vibe and the silliness of the costume. Sounds infinitely better than the sci-fi western BS other Dracula that apparently is in the works.

Although the other one, that supposedly stays very true to the novel sounds sweet too.

And who knows if Dark Army is still a thing
