The first teaser trailer for Yorgos Lanthimos' (The Lobster, The Killing of a Sacred Deer) adaptation of Alasdair Gray's bestselling novel, Poor Things, was released earlier this month, giving us a visually stunning first glimpse of some footage from the acclaimed filmmaker's latest project.

Now, we have a new poster spotlighting Emma Stone looking more than a little freaky as the twisted tale's take on "Frankenstein's Monster."

The movie is expected to lean more into the book's Frankenstein influences, as Willem Dafoe's disfigured scientist resurrects Stone's character, Bella Baxter, via a very familiar-looking experiment.

Bella then embarks on an adventure with Mark Ruffalo's "slick and debauched lawyer."

We had been led to believe that this would be a "Victorian-era" tale, but based on the footage, it seems to be set in more of a Steampunk-inspired alternate reality.

Hungry for the worldliness she is lacking, Bella runs off with Duncan Wedderburn (Mark Ruffalo), a slick and debauched lawyer, on a whirlwind adventure across the continents. Free from the prejudices of her times, Bella grows steadfast in her purpose to stand for equality and liberation."

The movie has been rated R for “Strong and pervasive sexual content, graphic nudity, disturbing material, gore, and language."

Poor Things is set to hit theaters for a limited run this September.
