Netflix Reportedly "Deep In Development" On More FEAR STREET Movies

Good news for Fear Street fans, as Netflix is said to be "deep in development" on more horror/slasher-based projects based on the works of R.L. Stine.

The Fear Street movies proved to be very popular, but they didn't quite do the type of viewership figures Netflix was expecting, with reports indicating that the streamer was hoping for a Stranger Things-level hit with the R-rated slasher trilogy.

For this reason, we weren't anticipating any more features based on R.L. Stine's best-selling books, but we have some very exciting news for fans.

According to Bloody Disgusting, Netflix is currently working on more Fear Street movies, and is already said to be "deep in development" on the project(s). We don't have much more to go on, but readers of Stine's source material might have some idea of what to expect.

The author hinted that more Fear Street might be on the way during a recent interview with Yahoo. “I hear rumors about more Fear Street movies for Netflix, because the first ones did so well last summer,” he told the site. “Those films kind of shocked me, because they were all R-rated, and I’ve never done anything R-rated! All those teenagers were getting slashed. I was like, ‘Suddenly, I have a slasher movie!’”

Leigh Janiak directed all three Fear Street movies and also co-wrote the scripts with Phil Graziadei. We have no idea if the same creative team will be involved for these new films, however.

What did you guys make of the Fear Street trilogy? Drop us a comment down below.

I actually really liked these movies. The genre blending was done quite well and the timeline ended up being better than I expected as well. Overall, I have pretty much nothing but good things to say about the trilogy and I'm stoked to see more of it.

I didn't care for the third one, it was way too involved with solving the overarching plot over having fun with the time period, but the first two were a lot of fun. The concept lends itself to an anthology format so they could pump out as many of these as they want, they just have to be prequels to that first trilogy since it closed everything out neatly.

@1stDalek - I never read the books, so I don't know if they fall (however loosely) under the story of the book, BUT they could just do an entirely new set of stories too. The sequels wouldn't have to feature the witch/curse story.

Again, I don't know how the books go down, BUT they could do something along the lines of the original plan for the Halloween franchise, which was supposed to just be an anthology of films told within the same universe that all take place on Halloween. That is why we got Halloween III: The Season of the Witch, which deviated so dramatically from the first two movies. They were never intended to keep telling the story of Michale Myers and Laurie Strode.

If they did something like that, I'd be all on board.
