"New Meg. Old Chum."
Jason Statham will soon return to punch a giant shark in the fackin' chops in Meg 2: The Trench, and the first trailer will be released online later tonight.
In the meantime, we have a new motion poster and two banners featuring the massive Megalodon of the title and the men who'll be standing (well, swimming) in her way: Statham's rescue diver/prehistoric fish killer Jonas Taylor, and a new character played by legendary Chinese star Wu Jing.
Sienna Guillory (Clifford the Big Red Dog), Skyler Samuels (The Gifted), and Sergio Peris-Mencheta (Snowfall) recently joined the cast in supporting roles. Peris-Mencheta will play the villain, "a hard-edged mercenary," Guillory is the head of an applied sciences division, while Samuels is "an adventure-loving member of the submarine crew."
Surviving Mana One crew members Cliff Curtis, Sophia Cai and Page Kennedy will also return.
The first movie's writing team (yes, it was a group effort) of Jon and Erich Hoeber and Dean Georgaris penned the script. Ben Wheatley, who is best known for disturbing/surreal movies such as Kill List and High Rise, is directing.
It's quite the departure for the filmmaker, although he did take a step closer to more mainstream fare with action flick Free Fire, and signed on to helm the sequel to 2018's Tomb Raider reboot last year before parting ways with the project.
