"What are you waiting for?!"
Well, it sounds like Sony's finally tired of waiting as Deadline is now reporting that the studio is moving forward with an I Know What You Did Last Summer sequel from director Jennifer Kaytin Robinson (Do Revenge; Someone Great).
While it's still very early in the development process, both Jennifer Love Hewitt and Freddie Prinze Jr. are in talks to reprise their roles as Julie James and Ray Bronson, respectively, and the buzz seems to be pointing toward them both coming back in a major way. The duo previously appeared in the 1997 slasher classic and its 1998 sequel.
Leah McKendrick (Deviant Love; M.F.A.) is penning the script, which is based on an original sequel idea she developed with Robinson. Their pitch reportedly "blew away studio execs" last fall, and was aided by Paramount scoring big with Scream (2022) as well as Robinson receiving rave reviews for Netflix's Do Revenge.
Robinson also has some Marvel cred on her resume, having served as a consulting producer on Hawkeye and was one of the writers on Thor: Love and Thunder.
No further details are known just yet, but, if everything goes according to plan, we'd imagine this one could go into production before the end of the year, possibly setting the stage for a 2024 release date.
