If you're a horror fan, then chances are you're familiar with Eli Roth's harrowing Hostel movies. The first instalment was released in 2005 with the second chapter, Hostel: Part II, following in 2007.
The premise of the franchise revolves around a group of young backpackers who find themselves lured into a mysterious and sadistic organization that caters to wealthy clients seeking to torture and kill victims for their own twisted pleasure.
Enticed by promises of hedonistic delights in exotic locations, the unsuspecting travellers become trapped and are subjected to horrific torture at the hands of their captors in movies which have become known for graphic violence and gruesome scenes, often involving torture and extreme gore.
The series has a devoted following but the trilogy concluded on something of a bum note with 2011's Hostel: Part III, a direct-to-DVD effort which didn't involve Roth (it did, however, receive the best critical response of the three).
Despite that, most Hostel fans don't view it as a true "Part III" and have been hoping Roth will return to tell another story set in this twisted world.
The filmmaker has since moved on to projects like Borderlands and Thanksgiving and we recently got to catch up with him to discuss the return of Fright Krewe to Hulu and Peacock. During our conversation, we asked if he's planning his own Hostel: Part III.
"Never say never," Roth teased. "There’s a lot of stuff that I’m working on that I just don’t discuss. Let’s just put it this way: I have a lot more to say in that universe and I plan on saying it."
That's a very positive update and one which hopefully means the prolific writer and director has something big planned for Hostel. Now would likely be a good time for a reboot, though we're sure Roth finishing his trilogy would also be welcomed by gore-lovers.
