The LA premiere of Guillermo del Toro's Frankenstein took place this week, and one of the pre-screening images was a new poster featuring Jacob Elordi's Monster.
Though the face is Victor Frankenstein's tragic creation is partially obscured, the artwork does give us another look at the Creature's soulful eyes and overall character design.
“He took around 10 hours every day,” del Toro told E! News at the premiere. “And about 42 pieces of makeup, prosthetics. And then he would have to work. I told him, ‘Look, it's like when a priest is getting dressed, there are many layers to the robes and the ceremonial guard. You have to think, this is your Ceremonial Guard. You're invoking the Creature. And the result is heartbreaking and beautiful. It’s a really naked performance—emotionally so close to innocence that it breaks your heart.”
You can check out the new image below, along with some reactions from the premiere.
Frankenstein centers on a brilliant but egotistical scientist (Oscar Isaac) who brings a creature (Elordi) to life in an experiment that ultimately leads to the undoing of both the creator and his tragic creation.
“This film concludes a quest that started at age 7, when I saw James Whale’s Frankenstein films for the first time. I felt the jolt of recognition in that seminal moment: Gothic horror became my church, and Boris Karloff my Messiah,” del Toro said in a statement when the project was first announced.
Frankenstein will receive a limited theatrical release on October 17, and a global bow by Netflix on November 7.
