The first official clip from Lee Cronin's Evil Dead Rise has been released, and it gives us a look at a key scene featuring the unearthing and reawakening of the iconic Book of the Dead, aka the Necronomicon.

As any fans of the classic horror franchise will know, this ancient book is used to summon the demonic entities that posses the living and lay waste to everything and everyone around them.

In Rise, a single mother is the unfortunate target of one such demon, who awakens after her son find the Necronomicon and plays the incantations on his turntable.

Let's just say, things get... messy!

I caught a screening of the movie earlier today, and it really is as f*cked up as the early reactions suggested.

Evil Dead Rise hits theaters on April 21.
