Following yesterday's brief teaser, the first full trailer for Evil Dead Rise is now online, and you'll need a strong stomach for this gruesome red band sneak peek!

The footage gives us a much better idea of what to expect from the story, as a mother is possessed by one of the evil spirits unleashed by the Necronomicon and slowly transforms into a Deadite - much to the horror or her sister and young children.

There's shreddings, stabbings, drillings, scalpings, and, of course, some signature chainsaw action as well!

Though it's already been confirmed that Campbell will not reprise the role of Ash Williams, director Lee Cronin recently promised that Rise is still very much an Evil Dead movie, and there will be blood... lots, and lots of blood!

Evil Dead Rise is set to hit theaters on April 21, 2023. The horror flick will ditch the usual forest setting and move the gory action to the city, as "two estranged sisters’ reunion is cut short when flesh-possessing demons thrust them into a battle for survival."

Sam Raimi's microbudget original is still considered one of the best horror movies of all time, with direct sequels Evil Dead 2 and Army of Darkness as well as recent TV show Ash vs. The Evil Dead upping the comedic elements. The well-received 2013 remake was a far more serious affair, but it's not known which direction Rise will head in from a tonal standpoint.

trying to decide how I feel about this.

It feels more like a sequel to Fede Alvarez's Evil Dead than something in the Ash Universe.

I don't know if they're all connected or not. Either way, it's an Evil Dead movie, so I'll check it out.

It is an interesting concept, taking the Evil Dead infection and placing it in an apartment building in a major city, but I feel like setting it in a major city takes away so much of the appeal of the franchise.

Um..I dunno. Looks like a decent horror ride but calling it "Evil Dead" carries with it some pretty big mythos.

I'd rather they kept this out of the evil dead 'universe'. The book, the look, the 'ash' chainsaw...a stretch at best.
