The resurrected Hammer Studios has shared the first teaser poster for Doctor Jekyll, which is described as a modern-day reimagining of Robert Louis Stevenson’s iconic novella The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde.

Comedian-turned-actor Eddie Izzard will play the lead role of Doctor Henry Nina Jekyll, who will (presumably) transform into the monstrous Mr. (Mrs?) Hyde.

Director Joe Stephenson (Chicken, McKellen: Playing the Part) developed the project with writer Dan Kelly-Mulhern.

According to the synopsis, "Doctor Jekyll focuses on a reclusive Nina Jekyll finding friendship with her newly hired help, Rob, played by rising star Scott Chambers, who must work together to prevent Hyde from destroying her life."

Lindsay Duncan, Jonathan Hyde (no relation) and Simon Callow will also star in supporting roles. No official release date has been announced, but a trailer is expected to debut fairly soon, so keep an eye out.

@Forthas - The original black and white from the '40s actually holds up... the '70s remake is okay too.

@Forthas - I'm fond of the 1931 adaptation, with the ape-like Hyde
