"It is time to stop seeing, it is time to stop speaking, it is time to listen."
Neon has debuted the first teaser trailer for David Cronenberg's Crimes of the Future, which will premiere at the Cannes Film Festival this May. The teaser spotlights some freaky body-horror footage, as Viggo Mortensen's performance artist puts his mutating organs on display.
A recent report indicated that the mysterious sci-fi horror flick is likely to cause a significant amount of “chaos and controversy,” with the last 20 minutes, in particular, expected to cause "walk-outs, fainting and real panic attacks."
Check out two versions of the trailer below along with a poster, and let us know what you think.
The film is set "in a distant future where humans have evolved beyond their natural state and into a metamorphosis, altering their biological makeup. In this setting, a performance artist named Saul Tenser embraces Accelerated Evolution Syndrome, sprouting new and unexpected organs in his body. Removing those organs becomes a new kind of theater, one that earns a following, as well as the attention of the government."
It really doesn't get any more Cronenbergian than that!
Viggo Mortensen is set to play the lead, re-teaming with Cronenberg after starring in A History of Violence, Eastern Promises and A Dangerous Method. He'll be joined by Kristen Stewart, Léa Seydoux, Scott Speedman, Welket Bungué, Don McKellar and Lihi Kornowski.
