This weekend, A Quiet Place: Day One makes its highly anticipated debut in theaters. To give audiences one final glimpse, Paramount Pictures has released the official final trailer, which lives up to the series' reputation for intense suspense and includes some glowing early reactions from critics.
The film is set during the initial day of the alien invasion, but further plot details remain under wraps, leaving much to be discovered when it premieres. The most recent installment, released in 2021, provided a brief look at Day One, focusing on how the Abbott family managed to survive the meteor crash and ensuing alien onslaught. However, this prequel shifts the focus to a new group of characters struggling to navigate the dangers of New York City while remaining silent to avoid detection by the extraterrestrial invaders.
A Quiet Place: Day One is projected to have a domestic opening weekend of over $42 million, which would be an impressive start considering the film's relatively modest production budget of $67 million. This projection places it in a similar range as its predecessors, with the original A Quiet Place opening to $50.2 million and A Quiet Place Part II debuting at $47.5 million. The latter, despite initially tracking for a $72 million launch, faced multiple delays due to the coronavirus pandemic.
The new film features a stellar cast, including Academy Award-winner Lupita Nyong’o (known for her roles in "Black Panther" and "12 Years a Slave") as Sam, Joseph Quinn (famed for "Stranger Things" and the upcoming "The Fantastic Four") as Eric, Alex Wolff (from "Pig" and "Old") in an undisclosed role, and Djimon Hounsou (who appeared in "Guardians of the Galaxy" and "A Quiet Place Part II") as Henri. The film is directed by Michael Sarnoski (who also directed "Pig"), based on a screenplay he wrote. John Krasinski, who directed the first two films, contributed to the overall story and serves as a producer. Michael Bay, Andrew Form, and Brad Fuller are also on board as producers.
The first two films were tremendous box office successes. A Quiet Place, released in 2018, grossed over $341 million worldwide on a modest $17 million budget. A Quiet Place Part II, despite the challenges posed by the pandemic, still managed to earn over $297.4 million globally on an estimated $55 million budget. These films have proven to be highly profitable for the studio, and the success of this franchise continues to grow.
Paramount has also announced A Quiet Place Part III, which is tentatively scheduled for release in 2025, with John Krasinski returning as director. The main cast, including Emily Blunt, Cillian Murphy, Millicent Simmonds, and Noah Jupe, is expected to reprise their roles, ensuring continuity in the gripping narrative that has captivated audiences worldwide.
