Blink-182 guitarist and vocalist Tom DeLonge is continuing to explore cinema and he'll soon be releasing his first full-length, live-action directorial effort in the forthcoming sci-fi, horror thriller, Monsters of California.
The movie follows his 2014 animated short film, Poet Anderson: The Dream Walker.

The trailer appears to show a trio of teenage California stoners finding one of their father's old secret government documents, which serves as a catalyst for them stumbling into an otherworldly mystery-adventure.
While it's not explicitly made clear in the trailer, the film looks to be proposing the idea that the supernatural myths of legend are all simply aliens from another world. Of course, this could also just be a cleverly constructed fake out for marketing purposes, so the actual plot of the film may not be discovered until it premieres on October 6.
After a teaser released more than a year ago (which you can see below) generated a small amount of curiosity, the latest trailer has sci-fi fans and reviewers alike paying attention. More than a few YouTube commenters are stating that they're getting strong Cabin in the Woods vibes from the new trailer.
Tom DeLonge directed the film and co-wrote the script alongside Ian Miller and Ben Kull.
In a press release, DeLonge remarked, "The film takes my fascination with the unexplained, combines it with the skate culture I grew up a part of, and tosses in my ridiculous sense of humor that millions got to witness during my Blink-182 days. In recent years, I’ve had the good fortune of helping the government remember how much they care about UFOs through the work we do at To The Stars, and it’s that experience which helped inspire this movie. I can’t wait for audiences to see the f#^ked up fun adventure these kids go on."
In the statement above, DeLonge is referencing his To the Stars... Academy of Arts & Sciences, which he co-founded in 2017 as a multidiscipline public benefit corporation with an interest in all things sci-fi.
The cast for Monsters of California includes Casper Van Dien (Starship Troopers, Sleepy Hollow), Jack Samson (Zodiac, The Metrosexual), Jack Lancaster (Weird: The Al Yankovic Story, Shining Girls), Jared Scott (13 Reasons Why), Camille Kostek (Free Guy), and Richard Kind (Mad About You, Argo, A Serious Man).
Screen Media has given the film an October 6 release for theaters and On-Demand.
